THE NIGHTOWLS GOOD AS GOLD VINYL RELEASE PARTY, STUBBS, MAY 8

AUSTIN – Neo-soul band, THE NIGHTOWLS, played a sold-out show at Stubb’s on Friday night.  The club filled to capacity with people singing and dancing along with the ten piece ensemble’s energetic music, already moved earlier in the evening by funky-cool soul opener Akina Adderley & The Vintage Playboys.

It was a great night for The Nightowls, a group that formed only a few short years ago and is already climbing the ranks as one of Austin’s most noteworthy up and coming bands. Founded by lead singer, Ryan Harkrider, the snazzy group (featuring glamorous backup singers and a mighty horns section) is nothing but fun to watch on stage .  Their cool style and blending of old and new sounds make them stand out from the rest, and they’re working hard on keeping that sound, that soul, alive. Based on the crowd’s reaction Friday night and other recent accomplishments, their efforts seem tobe paying off.  “Nobody Wants to Leave,” a B-side off their 2014 debut LP, Good as Gold, has even been commissioned by the Austin Convention and Visitor’s Bureau as the city’s official theme song.

The Nightowls are currently on tour promoting the vinyl release of Good as Gold, and with the help of their hit song, “Get Up!”, they’re making new fans every day. They’re also putting the final touches on their sophomore album, which fans can expect to be released sometime this year.

10 p.m., May 22 – Continental Club – 3700 Main St., Houston
