Mason, OH – Just north of Cincinnati, Ohio lies Mason, a comfortable, thriving town that every summer night is showered by fireworks at the King’s Island Amusement Park.  On this July 3rd evening, however, Mason hosted its annual Independence Day celebration (Red, Rhythm & Boom), complete with family-themed entertainment that included a kid’s zone, food trucks and a closing fireworks display.  This annual event always includes an evening concert from a national band, and this year, the thousands who attended were treated to 90 minutes of Daughtry.

The audience represents a mix of young and old, and the young at heart.  Children roamed freely in this family-friendly atmosphere, and folks parked their lawn chairs and blankets far and wide to relax on this pleasant Ohio night to enjoy the sights and sounds of summer fun and frolic.

Chris Daughtry and his band mates put on a show that was perfectly matched with this event.  The rock was not too hard on this night, and the banter with the audience was sincere and conversational.  Daughtry’s performance was terrific…his voice is so rich, and his tone so pure.  Wearing jeans, a loose t-shirt and a colorfully beaded neck-chain and bracelets, he imparted a casual feel that was both comfortable and relatable.  He introduced each song with a bit of explanation, even admitting that singing the same songs over and over can be tiresome, but that seeing the fans’ appreciation and connection always makes it worthwhile.

The band performed a strong set, featuring familiar songs like “Home” and “September.”  Daughtry introduced a new single release that he co-wrote with his wife called “As You Are,” about loving one another no matter who you are, or the circumstances you find yourself in.

At the conclusion of the performance, the fireworks began, rivaling the display across the way at King’s Island.  Awesome dueling fireworks…you don’t see that every day!

This event is a reminder that local festivals and celebrations can bring not only fun, but incredible music as well.  Look them up in your part of the world.  You may find a gem like this one.

Daughtry continues touring all summer, with shows across the “fruited plains.”  Check out their tour schedule at
