Aircraft – 7 Gems From The Sparkling Void Album Review ALBUM REVIEWS FEATURED MUSIC by Jessica Gorrell - August 28, 2015September 9, 2015 Article by: Jessica Gorrell Image Credits: Josh Underscore Psychedelic rock didn’t die with Hendrix, Jim Morrison, or even the break-up of Pink Floyd; it simply waited for it’s big revival which came decades later through bands like MGMT and the Temples. Now, it’s been born again through one of the most vibrant psych-rock bands in the past few years: Aircraft. Hailing from Buffalo, New York, the four-piece, though original and nonconforming to musical norms, manages to create catchy tunes that feature mysterious harmonies, a hypnotizing bass, and a captivating lead guitar, all which were introduced on their debut album Sonic Boom (2013). These talents, and much more, are now being showcased on their newest album 7 Gems From The Sparkling Void. With an interest in all things mystic, vocalist and songwriter Justin John Smith conjured up lyrics that force a sense of introspection while still being able to groove to the thunderous drums Matt Cossman brings forth. For those in need of a new playlist to cruise to, 7 Gems hosts tracks like ”Space Euphoria,” “Dig,” and “Stick,” which are reminiscent of (and a perfect match for) the ecstasy that accompanies a long, sunny car ride down to the beach. But what the album lacks in touching ballads, heartfelt declarations of love or melancholic crooning, it makes up for in angsty and rather motivational narratives. “Sink Or Swim,” one of these driving tracks, features a compelling jam session that cuts through the middle of the track and feels primarily lead by the bass work of James Warren and Cossman’s echoing drums. “Night Fall” is a unique track that is driven, not by vocals or beats, but rather by the beguiling embellishments of Ty Skelton’s guitar, which is definitely psychedelic enough to deem Aircraft as one of the most prominent modern indie rock bands. While 7 Gems From The Sparkling Void is only Aircraft’s second album, it is undeniable proof that they are a musical force to be reckoned with and will only continue to grow as they propel their way to the top of the charts. With the release of 7 Gems, the band has planned a promotional tour, kicking off the celebration of this new album with a show at Sugar City in Buffalo, NY, on August 29th. 7 Gems From The Sparkling Void track listing: 01.
