DALLAS – Twenty years ago, a relatively unknown band from Madison, WI released a debut album that rocked the entire world, going double-platinum on three continents. They were Garbage.
In celebration, the band took the road in mid-2015 for a historic world tour, dubbed “20 Years of Queer” and one of the final US stops before embarking on the European leg, was in Dallas. Shirley Manson and crew put on a spectacular show for the hundreds in attendance at South Side. The band began the set by projecting a video, recapping the past twenty years of the band’s life, onto a giant screen that shielded the entire stage. As the video ended the band began “Alien Sex Fiend”, silhouetted by the still in-place semi-transparent projection screen.
From there the screen was raised and when the crowd got their first glimpse of Garbage, they went nuts. The whole venue erupted in a fervor of unbridled joy as Garbage broke into “Subhuman,” followed by “Supervixen”.
Rather than put on a “greatest hits” show, the band choose to perform their debut album, interspersed with some rare deep cuts, b-sides and singles, most of which were produced for the UK market. Every tune in their set list was from 1995 through 1996. After crushing it with eighteen expertly chosen songs, the band came back and played four encores, including a cover of the Vic Chesnutt song, “Kick My Ass” and closed out the historic set with “Why Do You Love Me”.
Garbage still has a few US dates before the band hits Europe. For tour info and more, visit Garbage online. Be sure to connect with the band on Facebook and on Twitter to stay up-to-date on the latest happenings.
