Album Review: ALEXISONFIRE’s “Live At Copps”

Article by: Sophia Zucker

Canadian post-hardcore band Alexisonfire have released their first ever live record on February 12th, 2016, Live at Copps. It was recorded at their sold out show in Hamilton, Ontario on December 30th, 2012 in front of 10,000 fans. This show was the last show on their farewell tour before ultimately breaking up. Alexisonfire fans have been requesting a live album for years, and at long last. they finally delivered.

The album begins with “Young Cardinals”, which is also the song from the record that they released beforehand with a video, which can be found here. Along with “Young Cardinals”, the 23 more songs on the album showcased Dallas Green’s supreme vocals rather well. The sound quality as a whole is very impressive, and all of the guitar parts in particular were very clean. One of my favorite parts of the album is during “We Are The Sound” when Green stops and says  “Repeat after me” and screams “WE ARE THE SOUND” and the crowd relayed it back to him, and it kept going. It’s those raw moments that make live records all the better. Hearing the crowd singing until their lungs hurt and being able to listen to the band interacting with the fans. It’s real and it’s genuine, and that’s what people want to hear.

In between “Heading For The Sun” and “.44 Caliber Love Letter”, Green roars, “This is not a funeral. This is a fucking celebration”. And he was right, it wasn’t a funeral. He was talking about how the fans shouldn’t be upset that the band wasn’t going to be making music anymore, they should be happy and celebrating the music as a whole, and that is what Alexisonfire is all about. Alexisonfire do not have any tour plans so far this year but if you want to check out this live album (which you should) you can buy it through iTunes, which you can find here.
