Album Review: The Loom // Here in the Deadlights ALBUM REVIEWS MUSIC by LoriDantzler - April 16, 2016April 16, 2016 Article by: Jopey Maid Brooklyn based indie band The Loom will be releasing their 3rd album Here in the Deadlights later this month. It is the kind of album that leaves a haunting enchantment on your musical consciousness and rewards you for not skipping songs. It is understandable why The New York Times called them “The Next Big Thing”. From the first song it is difficult to not get pulled into the hypnotic chorus and trance like harmonies that are woven throughout the entire album. Layers upon layers of intense instrumental infusions create an ethereal atmosphere that leaves you discovering more every time you listen. The lead single Fire Makes builds heat with driving rhythms tied together with modest piano chords. Psychedelic guitars invade your ears while the chorus chants “As long as we are looking we’re not lost.” The title track and last song is as delicate as it is heavy and finishes the album so well that you will put it in heavy rotation in your music collection. I got the feeling that there are many words spoken from the heart, life lessons, and words of wisdom folded into the structure of this album. Every song has its own identity that compliments that of the last. And for me it was easy to find a familiar tone in lead singer John Fanning’s voice and liken it to that of Bauhaus’ Peter Murphy. In whole the album has an eclectic flow that has a mature and polished experimental feel to it peppered with electronic, rock, and folk sounds. Founded in 2006, The Loom is comprised of band members John Fanning on guitar, vocals; Lis Rubard on french horn, trumpet, keys, vocals; John Mosloskie on bass, vocals, and Mike Rasimas on drums. They have toured the US and performed at POP Montreal and SXSW music festivals. They are currently gearing up for an East Coast tour to coincide with the release of “Here in the Deadlights.” Track Listing: 1- Fire Makes 2- I Am Not Young 3- Snowed In 4- Ten Thousand Tiny Field Mice 5- A Mast, A Hull 6-Some Voice Other Than Mine 7- Only Electric Light 8- For Comfort Bates 9- Here in the Deadlights Check out their tour schedule here: http://www.theloommusic.com/shows/
