Las Vegas, NV —Holy White Hounds just released their debut album Sparkle Sparkle and with this album they earned a spot opening for The Pretty Reckless on their current tour. For those who think they don’t know this band, you do if you’ve listened to rock radio in the past year. Their single “Switchblade” has been a popular radio track. A show like this is a good chance to get to know more of their catalog and get a overall feeling about who the band really is.
The Holy White Hounds are a band who clearly like to have fun and and they are enjoying this time. They took the stage approximately five minutes early, gathered together as a band to do a shot and then they were off. Their sound is uniquely their own, guitar rock that brings to mind bands like Beck and Weezer. The former in their edgy unique sound and the latter in their sarcasm and wit. This band clearly has their own personality and it shows in their performance. Their set was intermixed with jokes, impressions and a dry an banter with the crowd. It was nice to see the interaction between the band and the crowd.
As for the music they are supporting the album Sparkle Sparkle which has been receiving great reviews. With the length of the set they were able to play many tracks off this album including “Switchblade” and “In Your Skin.” They event treated the audience to a cover song from The Brave Youth. The songs flowed and came off as a casual jam session not an overproduced stage show. There are no gimmicks here, it is a straight guitar driven rock sound. At times the songs seemed calm or gentle only to have them bust fourth in an almost chaotic fashion. Their energy was intense matching the songs builds, the strong bass lines melded with the dual guitars and were accentuated by hard hitting drum beats. Their energy and the overall stage dynamic kept the crowds attention from start to finish and successfully had the audience ready for the main headliner while gaining some fans of their own in the process.
There is a lot of talent in this band. Keep a lookout for the Holy White Hounds to come to a town near you . If you don’t get a chance to see them live watch to see where they go from here. It is bound to be exciting.
