Ottawa, Ontario – Hillsburn treated fans to a sold-out show at the Fourth Stage at the National Arts Centre this past Friday. The band was supported by fellow maritime Graham Ereaux, under the moniker Devarrow.

Devarrow played a collection of old and new songs throughout his set, playing solo (though having recorded with a full band), ensuring that the audience could see his talent for playing the guitar, bass drum (made out of a guitar case) and harmonica at the same time. Devarrow created a wonderful atmosphere with his easy-going attitude and by sharing stories about himself and his hometown of Moncton in between. During the song “Little Road,” the audience was clapping along to the beat, a fan favorite of the evening. Ending on a humble note, Devarrow took the time to thank Hillsburn for having him open for them, and being able to assist in treating the fans to a “Maritime Time.”

Before Hillsburn took the stage, the venue hosted a short intermission for setup and for the crowd to be able to refill their drinks. During this time, Hillsburns’ vocalist and violinist Rossana Burril came out to chat with some of her biggest fans, displaying the intimacy of the show.

When Hillsburn finally took the stage they came out swinging, opening with the powerful track “Bad Behaviours,” off their upcoming sophomore album The Wilder Beyond. To show their gratefulness to super fans who flew all the way from Halifax to see them play, Hillsburn dedicated “Bury My Heart” to them. As the song began, these fans danced up and down the venue, inspiring others to join along.

Overall, both Hillsburn and Devarrow showed Ottawa not only a great Martimer of a time, but true Canadian spirit and talent. Both are artists to check out, so catch them when they come to a city near you!
