GREAT WILLOW – FIND YOURSELF IN LOS ANGELES

“Perfect harmony…Excellent… the new sound of the West Coast.” Americana UK
GREAT WILLOW: Think emotional, intricate harmony singing from James Combs and Erin Hawkins, inspired by the classic Laurel Canyon “Cosmic American Music” tradition. Our debut album FIND YOURSELF IN LOS ANGELES (Sedan Zero) features mariachi horns, psychedelic guitar freakouts, mandolins and resonators, timbales and accordions, poetic lyrics, cinematic landscapes… and a LA story.
Produced by John Would (Fiona Apple) and Nik Freitas (Maria Taylor), FIND YOURSELF IN LOS ANGELES is a song cycle detailing snapshots of a relationship that gets broken and sets off a move to Los Angeles – endless, dusty, washed out, beautiful LA – where you go to start all over again. The songs are personal, full of imagery – margaritas and bees, dirty palm trees, dry river beds, taco stands, too much sunshine… what LA looks like to the broken-hearted-but-hopeful fresh arrival.
It’s its own thing but finds inspiration in the music of Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, The Byrds, Leonard Cohen, the solo albums of Gene Clark… the album has met with enthusiastic reviews in major Americana publications as well as high profile LA radio support from tastemaker stations KCSN and KCRW.
Call it Countrified Indie Folk… or Folkified Country Rock. A Los Angeles/Laurel Canyon sound for 2017.
