Song Review: In Earnest – “Come Upstairs”

Article by: Sam Fallone

UK-based indie band In Earnest is set to release their second single “Come Upstairs” this Friday, July 3.

“Come Upstairs” is a very emotional song about mental health and dealing with depression. The instrumentals throughout the song are beautiful and go perfectly with Thomas’s soothing voice. “Come Upstairs” is written from the perspective of one who has a partner dealing with depression. The lyrics are so deep and full of meaning, using metaphors like ‘sinking ship’ to describe the effects of depression. This is something that many can relate to from either perspective. Those that are struggling with depression can listen to this song and realize that they are not alone. I think it is important to be able to create music that centers on topics such as mental health and In Earnest did such a beautiful job doing so. Fans of Bright Eyes would especially enjoy this track.

In Earnest will be hosting a live streaming party to kick-off the launch of their second single. You can join them on either Facebook or Instagram at @inearnestband.

Sam Fallone: Sam has been very passionate about music since a young age - growing up with parents crazy about artists like Third Eye Blind, Blink-182, and Weezer. That spark for music never left and as she got older she had the desire to give concert photography a try. She enjoys being able to combine her love of photography with her love of music and loves the challenge of getting the perfect shot. She currently lives in Florida where she’s a zookeeper by day and concert photographer by night. In her spare time she loves going to the beach, hiking, reading, and is currently learning to play the drums!
