Columbia, MD – The Summer Gods Tour stopped by Merriweather Post Pavilion last Friday, a venue known for its cozy vibe in the heart of the city. It has a capacity of 19,000 and was just about fully packed with fans of all ages. As show time approached, both the floor seats and lawn full of fans cheered as the stage was set. The energy level increased when Third Eye Blind took to the stage. With seven albums to draw from going way back to the nineties, they certainly have an expansive catalog to pull from to please fans new and old alike.
The band smoothly transitions into “Motorcycle Drive By,” pumping fans up with “Graduate” and then knocks it home with their hit, “Semi-Charmed Life.” After playing the song, “Jumper,” Drummer Brad Hargreaves had a moment to shine with an impressive drum solo which left everyone stunned. Halfway through, the band sat on a giant couch and treated everyone with acoustic versions of “The Background,” “Bonfire,” and “Blinded (When I See You).”
Near the end of their set, lead singer Stephan Jenkins told the crowd that they renamed the encore as “the after-party” since they were still playing so late into the night, and jokingly added that he wouldn’t be offended if anyone left. Of course the crowd just cheered for more and they continued on to finish the night with a fan-favorite, “How’s It Going to Be.”
Before it was all over, however, Jenkins had a sweet exchange with a fan in the front row and took a paper from them that requested the song “God of Wine.” He responded with an enthusiastic, ”We got another song for you tonight!’ and the band went straight into this beloved song off their first album.
Third Eye Blind put on an exciting and energetic live performance that anyone could enjoy. With only a handful of dates remaining on their tour, get a ticket to see them before it’s too late!
