Under High Street // Live @ Snug Harbor // 1.15.2025 CONCERT REVIEWS FEATURED MUSIC by Jason Robey - January 20, 2025 Photos and review by: Jason Robey CHARLOTTE, NC — The crowd at Snug Harbor did not care that it was late on a freezing Wednesday night, they were out for a good time set to some high-energy indie rock. Nashville rockers Under High Street brought their tour to the pirate-themed dive bar in the Queen City, picking up new fans along the way. The show started with a half-hour set by Charlotte locals Jackson Fig. With three albums worth of material and a few new songs, the group had a fanbase turn out to sing and jump along with them. Songs like “Call Me when You Need Help With the Bodies” highlight the band’s blend of 90s grunge and early 2000s shoegaze with a modern twist. Next up, the stage lit up for Groove Skeletons, another local act with a unique style that fuses soul and alternative rock, tinted with psychedelic guitar parts. The group’s animated stage presence brought the audience into show, with a handful of songs from their previous three EPs like “Rainbow Tide” and “Crystal Eyes” sprinkled with new songs from their upcoming release. Under High Street took the stage with a pair of new, yet-to-be-released songs, “Lifestyle” and “Fool.” As the band got deeper into their set, they showed off their musicianship with an extended jam on their crowd-favorite “Strawberry Blonde,” morphing seamlessly into “I Feel Sick,” both from their self-titled debut album. Under High Street has found a unique balance between atmospheric, dreamlike moments and punchy, anthemic hooks, that kept the audience engaged with the show for their 75-minute set. Their setlist kept the energy high, with dynamic changes in mood, showing their range and ability to craft melodies that ring in your head after the show is over.
