Brooklyn, NY – Known for their high-energy live shows, rock trio Skegss delivered an electrifying performance this past Friday at Warsaw in Brooklyn, NY. The group are currently midway through their five week North American tour in support of their latest album, Pacific Highway Music.
The sold out venue was filled with elated Skeg-heads (I heard several fans refer to themselves this way), who were happily dancing and singing along to the venue’s house music while waiting for the show to begin. The lights went dark as the song “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes began playing. Skegss walked on stage, greeted the audience, and picked up their instruments as they lightly jammed to the song before ripping into their set. The entire crowd erupted with cheers and jumped up and down, bobbing to the music. Skegss returned the vibe right back by running around every inch of the stage, calling out to the crowd, and gathering in the center of the stage during the jam sections of their songs. “Let’s open things up! Make a circle pit!” called out vocalist/guitarist Ben Reed, as the audience began moshing and non-stop crowd surfing.
Crunchy guitar tones backed by a thunderous rhythm section filled the space, creating a vibrant atmosphere as the band continually ramped up the energy, smiling with positivity the whole time. Floating over this music was the audience singing along to every chorus. “Nobody knows just how good I feel. I took a pill, now I can’t stay still” sang everyone in the venue during “Spring Has Sprung”, with the band dropping out their vocals to let the crowd fill in while they continued pounding on their instruments. Skegss deeply appreciated this dedication, pausing a few times to thank the crowd between songs. “We’re all from the same hometown in Australia. And we want to thank all of you who came out tonight, especially anyone who traveled here like us. Are you still with us New York?!” yelled Reed as the stage lights flashed between orange and white, before diving into another sonic wall of sound.
Skeggs’ North American tour continues through early April, before the band heads over to the UK and Europe later that month. Check out all their upcoming shows here.
