Album Review: Mexican Dubwiser – Border Frequency ALBUM REVIEWS MUSIC by Andres Alvarado - April 4, 2017November 13, 2017 Article by: Andres Alvarado On their third LP, Border Frequency, Mexican Dubwiser are back at it inspiring their demographic to get up and dance. The follow up to 2016’ Electric City possesses a little more zing, a little more pep and plenty more party anthems that would satisfy the most demanding of club-heads. For this go-round, the duo made up of Marcelo Tijerina and Ulises Lozano invoked the help of several artists the likes of Tito Fuentes, Myron Glasper, and Self-Provoked to perform as album collaborators. Border Frequency is flushed with head-nodding singles. Led by Spanglish opening track “Lecture Me,” a cumbia/hip-hop boogie down tune, Tijerina and Lozano’s third effort is their most polished to date. Previous efforts suggest Mexican Dubwiser were busy creating their niche, Border Frequency confirms they own it and while the LP benefits greatly from the guest appearances, make no mistake, Tijerina and Lozano clearly outshine their collaborators. Border Frequency offers a healthy amount of catchy dance-floor thumpers like “Rock Your Body” and “La Gran Ciudad;” however, single “Nobody is Perfect” is where the duo display their abilities best. Despite the cliché chorus, Marcelo Tijerina delivers some of his heavier lyrics through a smooth flow, while Lozano’s diatonic button accordion play invites its listener to hip-swing and shoulder-shimmy. Start to finish Border Frequency is a strong album, one Tijerina and Lozano should be proud of.
