Boston, MA – Echosmith is a young band. Not that they haven’t been together a long time – the trio of siblings have been together since birth and producing music since 2009. But their music feels fresh, even with their years of experience. (Vocal lead Sydney Sierota was just 15 when their first album was released.) This has a big impact on the crowd that has turned out for the show. It’s refreshing to see so many families together for a show at a venue that normally hosts 18+ shows and turns into a nightclub on the weekends.

Tonight’s show was rescheduled from November along with the release of the band’s sophomore album because the band has been “overrun with inspiration lately and have more we would like to add to the album.” Their performance tonight is a display of that hard work.

Jena Rose took the stage and instantly captivated the crowd with her soul-filled R&B grooves. She was backed by a drummer and guitarist but most of the sounds were all her. She kicked off behind a keyboard, laying down samples to back her enchanting voice. Her twenty minute set was all too short; this is definitely an artist to watch out for.

Entirely different from either band bordering their set, The Score came out rocking hard. They’ve taken off recently with the release of their hit “Oh My Love” and the attention is well deserved. Their indie boy-band vocals are punctuated by a pounding bass drum, emphasizing each note and marching along through their set. With a poppy fun vibe and boundless energy they are reminiscent of a new Walk the Moon – and that’s a very good thing.

Echosmith is a highly polished band, performing together since 2009. Leading off with their classic song “18” they worked in their newest material throughout the set. With an EP release in late 2017 there’s a lot new from the band and their 2018 album will be a good one.

Sydney shines bright on stage, flanked often by her brother on bass. Two more members have joined their ranks though they often keep to the background and defer the spotlight to the family.

There’s a refreshing innocence to the show, a refreshing change to much of today’s commercialized music. Much of it has to do with the age of the musicians when the songs were written no doubt. Themes of love, longing, and change are prevalent throughout their music. At the end of their hit “Bright” they faded seamlessly into an emotional cover of Death Cab for Cutie’s “I Will Follow You into the Dark.”

Their tour is wrapping up in the next few weeks but there are still many dates available throughout the country for anyone in the Southwest.
