Perpetual Groove // Live @ The NorVa // 4.26.18 CONCERT REVIEWS FEATURED MUSIC by Sean Chagnon - May 7, 2018 Photos and Article by: Sean Chagnon Norfolk, VA — Formed in 2001 in Savannah, Georgia, Perpetual Groove — known to their fans as PGroove — has spent their fair share of time on the road and is a well established touring band. After moving their homebase to Athens, Georgia, lineup changes, and a two year hiatus, the band is back and is working on releasing a new album in the near future. Their lengthy jams and intricate light show are not uncommon amongst bands in their genre, and are always a visual and aural treat for the audience. Their performance with opener cbdb at the NorVa was no exception to this. The night was kicked off by cbdb with their funky, upbeat songs. Bands like this are the reason to not skip opening bands. cbdb treated the crowd to some cuts off their new album Out of Line and plenty from their previous efforts with Matthew McDonald of PGroove joining them for a song. They even payed homage to the great Sir Paul by covering Wings’ “Jet”. Keep an eye out for these up and comers in a town near you. Perpetual Groove took the stage next and wasted no time getting into their psychedelic rock jams by that were accompanied by an equally impressive lighting display. Opening with “Green Tea,” they set the mood for what was going to be a great set. Before finishing the song, they proceeded directly into fan favorite “Three Weeks”. After jamming two more songs together, the band took a breather and brought cbdb on stage to join them for Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long.” PGroove kept the crowd moving with soaring solos and jams with a touch of EDM for the rest of the night by never letting up and running each song into the next with members of cbdb coming out again to cover The Butthole Surfers’ “Pepper.” The band brought their set to a close by going full circle and finishing with their opening song, “Green Tea.” Perpetual Groove has multiple tour dates left throughout the middle and east coast of the US. Get out and catch this veteran band for one of their spectacular shows!
