Mamby on the Beach // Chicago, IL // 6.23-6.24.18 CONCERT REVIEWS FEATURED FESTIVALS MUSIC by Charles Yamabe - July 2, 2018 Article and Photos by: Charles Yamabe It comes as no surprise that Mamby, Chicago’s most tropical music festival, has pulled off yet another successful production of its breathtaking beachside festival. Located at Oakwood Beach on Chicago’s southside, Mamby combines Hip Hop, Electronic Dance Music, and Alt/Pop Rock. The pristine location leads to amazing views of the cities along with gorgeous sunsets. The all-ages event held June 23-24 attracts a crowd of young and old from the near and far. This year’s headliners included Common, Gorgon City, Duke Dumont, Russ, Cold War Kids, and Spoon. Some of the main highlights were Gorgon Citys’ live set, Duke Dumont playing to a packed tent and Chicago’s own Common who brought out Chance the Rapper, (another native South Sider). Normally comprised of two DJ/Producers, Matt and Kye, Gorgon City brought their live show to Chicago. You still the get the normal Gorgon City bangers but with the bonus of live keyboards, drums, synths, and singers. Common being from Chicago brought one of his best shows to date. The crowd went absolutely nuts when Chance joined Common on stage to perform “The Food.” Over at the EDM tent, Duke Dumont was playing his massive anthems alongside some amazing new remixes of 90’s classics. The tent was so crowded that at one point people were being denied entry. This didn’t stop the revelers who then spilled outside the tent and encompassed the surrounding area. All in all, Mamby was a complete triumph for React Presents and Livestyle Inc. It was a weekend of great weather, great vibes, and great people.
