VIRGINIA BEACH, VA– Keeping perfectly in theme for the upcoming Halloween season, Wednesday 13 arrived in Virginia Beach to terrify us and haunt our memories. This long-established icon of the horror-punk genre is touring with his bandmates to promote their 9th studio album, Horrifier. Due to be released on October 7th by their new label Napalm Records, the inspiration for select tracks on this album continues to be classic horror films- in this case, Christine and Halloween. Wednesday 13’s distinctive twenty year career has been filled with prodigious creativity and songwriting. Drawing upon both newer and older material, Wednesday 13’s set list also incorporated songs from his iconic past projects Murderdolls and Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13.
Full in makeup/costume and ready to rock, Wednesday 13 tore through 19 songs with a viciousness. Noteworthy songs included two recently released singles- “You’re So Hideous” and the relentlessly heavy marching groove of “Inside Out”.
Wednesday 13 took pause to make remarks on the recent controversy over the Murderdolls anniversary release, the tone of which has been echoed on his personal Instagram account. He also reinforced his feelings of loss of good friend and past creative collaborator Joey Jordison.
Wednesday 13 dispensed with the traditional band break before the encore, instead electing to play through the evening. The set’s finale was the war-chant “I Love to Say F*ck”, and the enthusiastic audience raised their fingers in the air, the ideal hell-storm for a night of celebratory glee in the macabre.
