Louisville KY- In a captivating concert at the Old Forester Paristown Hall on July 17, genre evolving metalcore, emo-alternative, screamo, formerly Christian (a label they discarded around 2006) American rock band, Underoath, showcased their blend of full-frontal instrumentation, emotionally charged lyrics, and visceral power. With their classic lineup reunited, the band’s intensity throttled fans from beginning to end.
As a first-time viewer, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but the band surpassed my expectations with their intricately layered sound and contemplative themes, illustrating their musical progression across the years.
The band powered up their set with the opener “Take a Breath” from their January 2022 album release, Voyuerist. The set included “Cycle,” and “Hallelujah,” also from that album, which were well received but so far have had minor chart action. Successful, memorable hits like “Reinventing Your Exit” and “Writing on the Walls” drew enthusiastic recognition, and demonstrated the lasting appeal of some of their chart-topping singles.
Comparing Voyeurist to their earlier albums, a marked coalescense in their overall sound and approach seemed to take shape, creating a refreshing addition to their discography. Critics have praised their current concert tour for its thoughtful combination of its new material and classic hits.
The setlist drew from various albums, including Define the Great Line (2006) and They’re Only Chasing Safety (2004). Underoath’s ability to seamlessly blend songs from different eras created a cohesive and engaging performance. It was impressive to see members from the original lineup still performing, demonstrating their enduring commitment to the band’s legacy. Their evolution continues to resonate with audiences, making future endeavors highly anticipated.
Their current tour has been a resounding success, drawing in both longtime fans and newcomers alike. For those interested in learning more about the band and their upcoming tour dates, they can visit Underoath’s official website at www.underoath777.com.
