Burlington, VT –  Accompanied by the plethora of young couples in attendance, the Your Girlfriend Already Bought Tickets tour made camp at the Higher Ground Ballroom on a brisk, Vermont Tuesday night. In preparation of a modulated bass-filled evening, many fans gathered outside the venue prior to the show in order to attach their glow-stick headbands and strobe light finger extensions before entering the fog filled pit.

Making his Burlington, VT debut, Freddy Todd kicked off the evening with a “Space Jam” infused mix collaborated with the hip hop rhythms of Snoop Dog and the reverbed sound effects of dubstep fundamentals. Instead of allowing a pre-recorded set to dominate his performance, Freddy turned to the mix table and executed his on the fly renditions of the atmosphere – infused blends heard on KHRYSOS EP (2015). Occasionally throughout the set, Freddy approached the front of the stage while slamming his jazz-funk keytar solos allowing the fans to engage in a more personal segment of the set list.

Second in the lineup, The Floozies – a brother bonded band comprised of Matt Hill, producer/guitarist and Mark Hill, drummer, took to the stage. Similarities were initially noticed with regards to the set up and genre to Freddy Todd. However, a unique factor The Floozies incorporated into their performance included the live guitar riffs and drum rhythms following along with motion-activated laser projections. The embedded voice processing auto-tune enhanced the rock funk atmosphere with melodies off of Do your Thing (2015) coinciding with the beat bouncing head nods from the crowd. The Floozies certainly pumped plenty of energy into the Vermont crowd prior to the headlining event taking over the evening.

As midnight approached, the Nashville natives of Cherub ignited a necessary spark to the drained, dancing crowd. Jordan Kelly, guitarist and Jason Huber, bassist, fed the 80’s funk and pop-music admirers with the unanimous favorite “Doses and Mimosas” off of Year of the Caprese (2014). Representing their most recent album, Jason strutted across the stage with his Bleed Gold Piss Excellence (2017) varsity jacket while slapping the bass pulse to “Very Rare”. Cherub’s performance expressed the importance of unity and the spreading of love through multiple forms of expression. The hints of Cherub’s rock infused funk was an accepted change from the dominant, EDM style of music experienced earlier in the evening.
